NFL News: Steelers Fear Mike Wallace To Sign With Browns

Mike WallaceFollowing a fourth season in the NFL, wide receiver Mike Wallace may have played his last game with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Wallace is widely considered one of the fastest and most talented wide receivers in the game. The Steelers wideout may not be in the conversation with some of the league?s elite like Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson or Roddy White, but Wallace is still a promising prospect heading into free agency next month.

Although the wide receiver position took a hit with the retirement of Hines Ward before the 2012 campaign and injuries to Antonio Brown and Wallace during the regular season, the team remains content with Wallace leaving Pittsburgh via free agency. Much like the New England Patriots, the Steelers franchise is more than willing to replace players through the NFL Draft and with other free agents.

With Wallace leaving Pittsburgh, the Steelers may end up seeing their former star wideout two times a year with the Cleveland Browns likely ready to sign Wallace once available according to NFL.com:

The?Pittsburgh Steelers?have no plans to slap the franchise tag on wide receiver?Mike Wallace, which means that the free agent?s?days in Pittsburgh are numbered.

The news gets worse for?Steelers?fans. According to CBSSports.com?s Jason La Canfora,?many in the organization?believe the division-rival?Cleveland Browns?are Wallace?s most likely landing spot next month.

In 15 games during the 2012 season, Wallace caught 64 passes for 836 yards and eight touchdowns.

Wallace?s production fell off considerably in the receiving yards and receptions department in comparison to last season with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger getting Brown and Pro Bowler Heath Miller more involved in the offense this past season. Wallace was still one of Roethlisberger?s favorite targets in the end zone, but the veteran quarterback began to spread the football around a bit more and may have convinced others in the organization that Wallace was expendable and not worth a lucrative long-term contract.

Along with the Browns, Wallace may be pursued by the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins among other teams looking for an upgrade at the wide receiver position in free agency.
